“Germany’s idle nuclear plants could find a new life as data centers, with operators looking for ways to redevelop the sites while dismantling of the reactors continues.

German energy firm PreussenElektra GmbH is working with US chipmaker Nvidia Corp. to assess whether former nuclear plant sites could be turned into data centers, the firm said Wednesday, without giving further details.

Former power-plant sites are particularly attractive for data centers because they already have grid connections and much of the necessary infrastructure in place. Selling the sites can also generate additional revenue for utilities, with RWE AG and Uniper SE having identified several former coal-plant sites for potential sales.”
