“In the African region, 5 countries (Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, Niger and Zimbabwe) have already achieved the target for STH elimination and started preparing their dossiers with the support of the Expanded Special Project for Elimination of NTDs (ESPEN) at WHO regional office. For schistosomiasis, Egypt has already submitted to WHO its dossier of elimination of schistosomiasis as a public health problem and WHO has already set up a review committee to ascertain their evidence.
Regarding verification of interruption of transmission, the following countries have not been reporting autoch- thonous schistosomiasis cases for at least 10 years and are preparing dossiers for submission: Mauritius in the African region; Antigua and Barbuda, Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Montserrat, Puerto Rico, Saint Lucia and Suriname in the region of the Americas; Djibouti, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Iraq, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia in the Eastern Mediterra- nean region.”
