“According to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), between 1995 and 2023, the population of red kites in the United Kingdom increased substantially—to at least 4,600 breeding pairs from a paltry 160. And the birds are now being seen in places they haven’t visited in centuries, including the gray-glass urban jungle of London. The success stems from a reintroduction program using—ironically—birds from Spain, brought in at a time when that country’s population was still stable. This unique arrangement makes U25 a distant relation to the Extremaduran community AMUS seeks to revive.”
