“Rwanda increasingly relies on digital tools to improve monitoring for pregnant women and manage high-risk pregnancies. At the opening of the fifth Africa HealthTech Summit on Wednesday, September 30, Minister of State for Health Yvan Butera said these systems had contributed to a 30% decline in maternal mortality over the past two years.

The strategy relies partly on digitizing the work of community health workers. More than 54,000 workers use smartphones to record information collected from households and monitor patients. The data allow health workers to identify some high-risk pregnancies more quickly and refer patients to appropriate health facilities or specialists.”
