“For the first time in 200 years, a Przewalski’s horse foal has been born on the Central Kazakhstan steppe. This is a significant milestone on the road to returning wild horses to the country and restoring the integrity of Kazakhstan’s native steppe ecosystems.

The male foal was born on 22nd August at the Alibi Reintroduction Center. This specialist facility for native large herbivores lies at the heart of Altyn Dala, the golden steppe of Kazakhstan. The mare and her foal are being carefully monitored by veterinary staff and are understood to be both doing well.

Przewalski’s horses were reintroduced into Kazakhstan in 2024.”
