“Chinese researchers from Tsinghua University and the Chinese PLA Medical School have developed Airscope, the world’s lightest wearable mini-brain monitor (mesoscope).
It is a lightweight (1.0 g), wireless, miniaturized mesoscope designed to record brain activity in freely moving animals without the constraints of a tether.
Compared to conventional microscopes, the Airscope offers a complete upgrade in neural imaging. This wireless device provides a broad 6-millimeter field of view across the cortex. As a result, researchers can simultaneously track more than 8,500 individual neurons in freely moving subjects…
As the headset is so light, animals do not feel dragged down. In test habitats outfitted with ramps, tree holes, and shelters, mice fitted with Airscope climbed and burrowed as they would naturally.”
