Formula E Electric Vehicles Could Spark Widespread Innovation

“The batteries in the current generation of Formula E cars deliver up to 350kW of power, and can propel a driver to a maximum top speed of 320km/h (199mph), approaching the top speed of traditional F1 cars. And while the racing series may not have the pedigree – or budget – of F1, it does provide a unique and important testing ground for new battery technology that could benefit the entire EV industry.”

Automated Port Will Handle 65 Million Containers per Year

“Singapore’s project to operate the world’s largest automated port is coming along nicely. The Tuas mega port has successfully handled 10 million containers since it kicked off operations in September 2022, and is expected to increase that to a massive 65 million shipping containers per year in the 2040s, when its four-phase development is complete…

A command center near the port sees humans monitor and remotely operate vehicles and cranes from large screens displaying a digital twin of the facility. That includes a fleet of fast-charging electric automated guided vehicles (AGV) moving through the terminal, autonomously transporting containers…

The electrified equipment and vehicles are said to help cut the port’s carbon emission by about 50% compared to current diesel-powered machines. The facility will also use a smart grid management system, and feature buildings designed to require nearly 60% less electricity than similar-sized constructions.”

Austin Rents Tumble from Peak on Massive Home Building Spree

“Nowhere in the country have rents declined as much as they have in Austin — now 22% off the peak reached in August 2023, according to Redfin. The median asking rent is $1,399 per month, down $400 in less than three years.

Developers dumped almost 50,000 rental units on the city in 2023 and 2024, according to Fannie Mae data. That represented a 14% increase in the supply, the biggest on a percentage basis for any major US metro area.”

Waymo Has Doubled Its Weekly Robotaxi Rides in Less than a Year

“Waymo is logging more than 200,000 paid robotaxi rides every week, according to Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, who shared the stat about the tech giant’s subsidiary on X.

Waymo commercially operates robotaxis in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Phoenix.

The 200,000-weekly trips milestone is notable for a company that was providing only 10,000 rides a week two years ago. As Pichai notes, the number of weekly paid rides has grown 20-fold in the past two years. In August, the company was providing 100,000 weekly paid robotaxi rides.

According to Waymo, the company’s self-driving system drives more than 1 million miles each week.”
