BYD’s 5-Minute 400km EV Charging Breakthrough

“BYD has unveiled its groundbreaking Super e-Platform, setting a new global benchmark for EV technology. The platform boasts 1,000 kW ultra-fast charging (1 MW), enabling 400 km (249 miles) of range in just 5 minutes – twice the speed of Tesla’s Tesla’s latest Superchargers (500kW).

The breakthrough, part of the all-new BYD Super e-Platform, was unveiled on March 17 at BYD’s headquarters in Shenzhen.”

Ethiopia’s Modjo–Hawassa Expressway Nears Completion

“For Solomon, a freight driver based in Hawassa, the journey north to Modjo used to take close to five hours—often longer, depending on road conditions. ‘You’d leave early and still arrive late,’ he recalls. ‘The road was narrow, always crowded, and sometimes unpredictable.’

Today, as Ethiopia moves toward the completion of the Modjo–Hawassa Expressway, Solomon’s experience is already changing. Travel times have dropped, driving conditions have improved, and the route now offers more reliable movement for freight operators and passenger vehicles alike.

The Modjo–Hawassa Expressway is Ethiopia’s second major toll road and the first expressway built to international standards, extending south of Addis Ababa. Spanning 202 kilometers, it connects growing urban and industrial centers—Modjo, Batu, Shashamene, and Hawassa—forming a strategic corridor for domestic trade and cross-border logistics.'”

Google Founder’s Airship Gets FAA Clearance

“Expect traffic on the 101 highway in Mountain View, Calif., to be even worse in the days or weeks ahead, as motorists slow down to watch Google cofounder Sergey Brin’s 124-meter-long airship, Pathfinder 1, launch into the air for the first time.

IEEE Spectrum has learned that LTA Research, the company that Brin founded in 2015 to develop airships for humanitarian and cargo transport, received a special airworthiness certificate for the helium-filled airship in early September…

Although its rigid design hearkens back to the gargantuan airships of the early 20th century, Pathfinder 1 is almost completely different from any large airship that has flown before. Crucially, its reported 3,000 welded titanium hubs and 10,000 carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer tubes are light enough that it can use nonflammable helium instead of explosive hydrogen as a lifting gas.”
